Firecrackers Team Photo

Great Season, Firecrackers!

Congratulations on a Job Well Done

12 July 2005

The Firecrackers deserve a round of applause for a great season.  After having a losing record at the beginning of the year, the team turned everything around and went on a six-game unbeaten streak.  Everyone got to know each other well, and the team really clicked together.  Being league champs was only a game away.

Granted, the game did not end up as we had hoped.  What did turn out well was the attendance.  I think that there must have been at least a hundred people in attendance.   In fact, I can’t think of a single game all season long that we didn’t have anybody come watch us play.  I know I speak for the whole team when I say “thank you” to everyone who came.  Some memorable fans are the Sturges Family, Heather and her Saltines (the Firecrackers Fan Club), and all the countless girlfriends and wives (well, we all know who they are, individually!) who shared us with our soccer nights.  Others of note were players from my Saturday team, the Super Chavellas as well as my Thursday night team, Club Foot.  I would also like to thank John Basanese, Sr., and his son Josh,  for making the trek from Hollister every week to take the amazing photos of the game.  Without those pictures, this website would be very boring!

Congratulations are in order for all the players who played in the games.  One could never say that we played without heart.  We all supported each other, and got to know each other really quickly.  We started the year out with 5 new players and another 4 who were only in their second season with us.   Another great thing about this team was that we played well together.  Players patiently subbed in and out to give others time to play.  Everyone got along, and that is why we made it as far as we did.

I would like to post any comments on a page at the end of the week.  If any of you have something you’d like to say regarding the team, be it players or fans, send your remarks to dave.ahlgren@gmail.com, and I will post them by this Friday.

In any case, enjoy the photos, enjoy your week off, and remember—we have a game July 25th!  See you all then!

Dave
