Championship Game Preview
30
July 2005
David Ahlgren
With a surprising result, Deportivo Agave, the only undefeated team this
season, was eliminated from the playoffs. Details of the game are
hard to come by, but the final score was Irapuato 4, Deportivo Agave 1.
They really spanked them.
Irapauto has had an interesting season. They lost to Azteca, one
of the weaker teams in week 1. Then the beat us 3-1 at Watson 2
the following week. Week 3's game saw them lose to Deportivo Agave,
but they followed that up with a win at Real Espanol in week 4.
They then tied another weak team, Anauhtl, in week 6. In their
next game, the lost to Santa Clara, but followed it with a wins against
bottom dwellers, Nayaros and Halcones. At the end of the season,
they were 4-3-1, and barely made the playoffs. But here they are.
But we'll be ready for them.

Manager's Notes
There are three keys that allowed us to beat Santa Clara, and will be
instrumental for the championship:
1. Being first to the ball. In the second half of the Santa Clara
game, we won every ball out of the air. We also made extra efforts
to win any passes, or get to any ball that was contested. Tough
play like that is difficult to teach--keep up the great play.
2. Distributing the ball wide.
On this big field, it will help immensely if we can take control of the
game and open the field up. These guys must know how to play if
they can beat us 3-1 and Agave 4-1. By passing the ball through
the midfield and putting the ball out wide, we'll be able to keep
control.
3. Playing smart passes. We
have to know where we're going to play the ball before we receive it.
This elevates the level of play and is something we did well against
Santa Clara.
It's been a long road here, but let's all
get amped up for the game and come out like screaming banshees! We
can do this! |
