Captain's Log 8/4/2008
This is the first of
what I hope is many reports on another Firecracker victory.
Most of the write ups are done through the
eyes of one of two forwards so these little observations are all going
to be through the eyes of a defender, the last defender in this case.
We have become
spoiled I’m afraid to the flat true grass of PAL and it showed on Monday
night.
Several simple balls played all the way back to me
I had to watch carefully for that last unpredictable bounce.
Watching some of the passes and missed shot
attempts as well looked like La Soledads best defense against us was the
dirt clumps and weeds.
That being said it was the little things
that won this game.
All the runs and movement around the field
that should be expected from a team of our skill and experience were
always being made.
The outside mids (Josh, Dave, Paul, etc.),
whose job it is to make those long runs and crosses and then get back on
defense made it look routine.
Defensively we held the line very well.
They were limited to outside shooting the
entire first half and we took that option away from them in the second
half.
Tone was able to step up and force them to send the
ball over to try and outrun our back line catching them offsides at
least 8 times.
Being our first game
back with a few weeks off is usually a daunting task but we were able to
get the victory.
The second half looked very strong with
better passing and more opportunities.
Having Ronnie up top seemed to give another
option that they were just not able to handle and adding another
defender should allow Ronnie to push up to his natural role more often.
The one goal we gave up was a combination of
miscue from the ref and by our defense.
Once we get set back there I don’t see that
happening very often!
Overall it was a good
start.
The better fields will provide more opportunities
for goals and we will be able to show teams just how much better we can
play.
