Captain's Log 8/16

Another game and another win in the books for the Firecrackers. Although this one did not lack it's fair share of quirkiness.

First to start off the game having most of the starting back line showing up late (me included) cannot be an encouraging sight for the team.  Then during the game watching some of the kids from the opposing team using our field as their personal playground made me shake my head.  But the topper was the forward for the other team who I will only describe as "#11" putting on one of the finest performances ever seen on any soccer field around. Who could forget him showing off his skill at the "eggroll" as he would get bumped and then roll....oh say.... 5 or six times across the grass. Or his performance of 'shakespearean' heights as he repeatedly collapsed to the ground screaming for justice each time he stepped in a gopher hole. Damn those Gophers!

All this plus others things only contributed to anther grind it out win. I don't know if it's the tiredness from a busy day at work or the chaos from the start of another week but we as a team are lacking some intensity. For our goalie to have to apologize for being too vocal bothers me a little. If our goalie and a select few others seem too loud and obnoxious it's more a reflection of the team not stepping up and communicating effectively. This may be sounding redundant but we have alot of players on the sideline waiting to get their shot at some playing time. Come in and play hard, speak up and then sub out if you're tired. I'd rather we err on the side of being too fired up than relaxed or reluctant. I'm not saying to go Russel Crowe in hotel lobby but within reason show some desire out there.

But that doesn't mean we didn't have fine performances all around. Our passing was crisp and we set up many runs to break through their offside traps. We also made nice transitions switching the ball to the other side of the field.

In the middle of all that was Franco who brought a quick pace and boundless energy to break away countless times down the sidelines. Putting in the first goal of the game was the cherry on top of an overall well played game. Franco you were the man of the match!

Congratulation on the win guys. See you next week.
