Firecrackers Continue to Decimate Opposition

5-1. That number is starting to get very
familiar. It looked as though the 'Crackers might not
get that far last night, though. The score was 1-0, with the GTOans really making the Firecrackers work for their lone first half
goal. Shortly before the first half, GTO even tied up the game
with a rocketed shot going across the face of the goal, leaving no time
for Johnny to even react. They celebrated like they had just won
the World Cup. Even the psycho in the white shirt on their bench
had a smile on his face.
Not worried, the Firecrackers kept playing their game
and stuck to the plan. It took a lot of effort, though. Real
GTO did not give up easily. They kept trying to score, but facing
the stonewall of defense got them nowhere. Eventually, the tide of
the Firecrackers overwhelmed Real GTO. Gareth Williams added 2
goals to his tally, as did Ronnie Jenkins on a couple nice breakaways.
The score of the game does not really reflect the
play. Real GTO held their own and really made us work. Once
they gave up a goal in the second half, their shoulders dropped a
little. With the third goal, they had a fork stuck in them--they
were done.
It just goes to show the level of players on the
Firecrackers. Being able to rotate people through the subs and
keep up the intensity for 90 minutes is something that none of the other
teams can reckon with.
See you in 2 weeks!!
