Firecrackers Face Rare Loss
3 June 2008
David Ahlgren
I like to say that from the opening whistle, each
team is competing for the dominance of play. Once one team has
established control of the game, it's very hard for the other team to
take that momentum away.
That happened to the Firecrackers last night at PAL stadium.
Something was missing from the game play last night. It could be
argued that it was the fact that the Firecrackers had not played a game
in 3 weeks played a huge role. You could also say that the passes
weren't crisp or that there simply weren't enough shots on goal taken.
Perhaps the hideous jerseys that La Soledad wore threw the balance of
the Firecrackers off. It doesn't matter, really. The La
Soledads established themselves early and never relented.
The first half was testy, with both sides playing hot. There were
plenty of fouls, mostly cheap, and lots of jawing. Then the second
half calmed down and La Soledad became less chippy. Unfortunately,
they were also able to put a couple goals away at the same time.
One item of merit was that the Firecrackers never conceded the dominance
of the game. They battled up until the final whistle.
Let's remember this taste of defeat for the rest of the year and not let
it happen again!!
