12-0? Are you sure you're in the right league, Mexal?

Date: 09-15-08

Although it was fun I think we probably ran it up a little too far last night.  Mostly due to the fact that we had all defenders up top just wanting to score and get our names on the stats sheet for once!  Personally it was my first game on the field for the Firecrackers and felt good to just get out and run.

I can’t really point out any spectacular or terrible play since from the beginning we were just messing around with them.  At one point the defender who was marking me started yelling at the ref that we were wasting time.  It was 3 – 0 at that time and I just told him the game was already over.  He got mad and said it wasn’t but in hindsight I am sure he wishes we would have wasted more time.

We did get the shut out which I was hoping at the very least we could do.  It was a combined effort of 4 goalies, some with gloves and some without!  At the end of the game they actually started shooting on Dave who came up with about 4 saves, one of them diving.  Nice work on the clean sheet, 5 out of 6 games this year.

Maybe it is just me but it seems like the other teams this session are much weaker than they have been in the past.  We do have a stronger team but we usually get every teams best shot.  We only have 2 more games in league before the playoffs and we have already played the best teams.  As we know we are bound to see some new faces in the playoffs but at this point this league is ours to lose.

There is one more team that we are going to play that is comparable to last nights team.  The idea was thrown around last night that we play with 8 or 9 or maybe get a minimum 20 touches before we score.  It will be at Watson Bowl against another new team, like last night, but I think we should approach it a little different.

On the lighter side though, last night was just too much fun.  I appreciate everyone for all the constant passes and even when I wasn’t open the ball kept finding its way to me.  I’m sure from the sideline it looked a little sloppy and slow but I had good company with all the rest of the defense up there with me.  I think just about everyone who wanted to got on the stat sheet last night.

Next week we are back to Butcher Park, we won’t see PAL again until the playoffs.  We play the San Jose Latinos who have yet to beat us in 5 tries but they are one of the teams that was tied for second before the start of last nights games so if they want to get into the playoffs they are going to have to beat us.
