Firecrackers Tryout and Practices
Over the past few years, the interest has been growing to play on the
Monday night Firecrackers team. As the number of interested
players has increased, so has the competition in the league. In
years past, we have been able to carry 21+ players on the roster--mostly
because of a lack of commitment from players. This is no longer
the case--we are bursting at the seams with great talent, and the league
is really cracking down on limiting the size of a team. This makes
sense; less players equals more playing time. These factors have
drastically altered the team's situation.
Many of the teams in the Monday night league are playing in other
leagues and/or practicing on a weekly schedule. Except for a
select few players, the Firecrackers have had an off-season since last
October. The goal of the Monday night team has to be to win a
championship. This has eluded the club for some time now, but we
are in a great position to achieve it.
The goal of the Saturday morning practices is twofold: 1. To get in
shape, both individually and as a team. If we can get playing
together for a month before the season starts, we'll be able to hit the
ground running. 2. To evaluate the player skill level and assign
people to the proper team.
The overall goal is not to break up the team, or separate anyone.
We want to maximize the playing time for everyone, as well as
group players of similar skill levels. There will be players who
play for both teams, others who only play Mondays, and others who will
only play Saturdays. Each team will continue to enjoy the
fraternity that the Firecrackers have always enjoyed.
We look forward to seeing you at the Saturday practices at Valley
Christian from about March 3rd through April 8. Check back at the
website for more details. |
